River has got to be one of my favourite characters of all and I am saddened that she seems to have been written out of it - does anyone know if it has been definitively stated that she is not coming back? I love Alex Kingston and the chemistry between her and Matt Smith was great (tho I often got the vague and possibly totally unfair impression that she had Karen Gillian did not hit it off very well).

John said the other day that Matt Smith tweeted "please , please don't let Capaldi have Song". Not sure if that's true or a spoof to put you off the scent but Kind of hope she's in it again soon :-)

I'd like her to be but at the same time it's hard to see how they might bring her back when she's effectively dead. Granted she did appear in some form for one of the last MS episodes but he said himself that she was an echo and no-one else could see her

Yes. But that is the only time that she met Tennant's Doctor... which is a shame really.

They are still free to meet up at other times. Can't write someone out of a time-travel programme completely. As I said above, she still hasn't met him for the first time yet, which doesn't really make sense if she recognised him as Tennant, but didn't know he hadn't met her yet. |

Hmm I don't get you - she HAS met him for the first time and she said that she recognised him because she had pictures of all his different faces. Interestingly, at a later point she remarked to Rory - who at that time did not know that he was her father - that one day she knew that she would encounter the Doctor and that she would look at him and realise that he did not have the faintest idea of who she was, and that she 'thought it was going to kill her'. And she was right, it did.

Erm .. good question. Oh wait I remember! If you leave aside the fact that she met him as a baby, the first time she met met him was in Let's Kill Hitler, when she was still known as Mels and before her last possible regeneration. She attempted to kill him several times in that episode, as she had been raised and trained to do.

It still does not work that River is too old for how old she is supposed to be. She is a lot older than Matt Smith!

Alex Kingston is older than Matt Smith but River Song is not older than Doctor Who.
