Has anyone seen any episodes of Pertwee?
Recently on a local channel they showed classic Doctor Who episodes, though it only lasted two months and they only showed Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. Baker was good but I never really got a sense of his tenure because the channel kept skipping episodes (and entire seasons, for that matter) but I got a better sense of Pertwee's tenure and really grew fond of him. IHis shows were extremely earth-bound, though; I suppose budget cuts had something to do with it.

Yes I have seen most if not all of the stuff that is available of his - it's been a while though. I did not like the whole UNIT thing (which, as you correctly surmise, was largely due to budget cuts) and would have much preferred more space orientated stuff. Nonetheless he was a charismatic and likeable doctor tho.

I've not seen any for a while, but I seem to remember enjoying JP's stuff.

I love Pertwee! I went to a wake for him in Florida. :-) He was amazing.

I believe that there something of a revamp going on at the Beeb Beeb Ceeb (Sorry.. Goon reference there) at the time. As a result, the Pertwee era was predominantly Earthbound.
However there were some interesting concepts brought up.. such as what happens when a TARDIS materialises at the same time and place as another TARDIS materialising... (before the strange concept of the TARDIS having a back door that was only ever used for a gimmick in a later series/incarnation reprising the same concept but not as well.
It also had a very poignant clash between the Brigader and the Doctor over the Silurians.
And.. his tenure introduced the concept of parallel realities.
Not 100% sure, but I also think it was also the case that Jon pertwee had a close running contender for the role in the shape of one Bernard Cribbens

Bernard Cribbins has been good in it recently, but I think as the Doctor he'd have just dug a hole for himself.

You have to remember that a good number of the old comedy actors have made their marks as serious actors.
Jon Pertwee was probably most famous for "The Navy Lark" before Dr Who, and appeared in a couple of the 'Carry on Films'
Also, Bernard Cribbens already had a Dr Who appearance under his belt.

What you have to remember is that I'm more likely to make an obscure Bernard Cribbins Joke!
