So there . Of all the female assistants I think that Martha has annoyed me the most, though Clara might be in the running too .. give her time . I just hated the way that Martha was supposedly this smart, successful young woman and yet she apparently had nothing better to do than moon over the Doctor from the first second she met him, even though it was clear her feelings were not being reciprocated. I much preferred Donna, who was a good deal more independent and feisty. Even Rose too a while for fall for the Doctor's charms ...

Yes, Martha was (and still is when she shows up places) not a very good character.

That is a bit unfair in a way. I agree that it's annoying that all of the females seem to want to get with the Doctor but I don't see why Martha was any worse than any of the others. I like Sarah Jane myself, both the old and the new version of her. I was sorry to see she had died.

I just found her character to be too disinteresting. She never seemed to add anything to the episodes to me.
Donna was good most of the time, but it did annoy me a little on the occasions she started to slip towards acting like Catherine Tate's Lauren character.

At least she did not throw herself at the Doctor though. It is weird because Donna should have been a good deal more insecure than Martha (and in some respects she was I guess) and yet it was Martha who came over as being really annoyingly needy.

I suspect the Doctor just wasn't Donna's type. Besides, her first impression of him wasn't under the best of circumstances, it must have seemed to her she was abducted by him from her wedding.

Yeah but she was marrying a bloke who was in cahoots with a giant spider .

I am sure some women would have claimed to have married worse!

Actually, Martha was alright in my opinion. I found Donna quite annoying. I'm not sure why, though.

Martha had some good qualities I suppose - she was at least loyal to the Doctor and if it was not for her he would have been in trouble on several occasions - but then, that seems to be the case for most of his assistants (Rose in particular had a penchant for saving his life).
