This is my favourite Christmas Special (which all tend to be pretty good) and one of the episodes I have seen the most. Although disliked by many as the Doctor is so down in the dumps in it, I feel that is a fitting part of his arc and anyway the feel of the ep is compensated for by Strax + Vastra & Jenny.

That was an awesome episode .. I might rewatch it this evening. I love Strax and Vastra and Jenny and the humour that they bring to the episode, even if the Doctor IS down in the dumps. Though I wasn't very impressed by the way he so quickly forgot Amy as soon as a new pretty face came along..

I think David Morrissey could have done a good job of it, even before I'd seen the episode where he is the doctor (in so far as it goes).

I wish really that they had stuck with the Clara in THIS episode .. she is more likeable than the rather bland one that the Doctor seems to be lumbered with now. It is as though, by splitting her into so many pieces as it were, they have taken away her essential personality. I am not sure that the whole many Claras thing was a good idea (and frankly I found the whole 'but who is she really' protracted storyline deeply boring)

I never liked Clara in any of her incarnations.

I think she is okay and has potential, but I do agree that the repeated rehashing did go too far!

I am looking forward to seeing how she works with Capaldi but yeah, I dunno, she's just another identikit young, pretty woman who 'really fancies' the Doctor Why can't he have another old female companion, or another bloke, or another alien?

In these days where the decisions are made heavily by demographics, I think that kind of choice is pretty locked in. They are not trying to explore possibilities, but ensure viewing figures.
