These two were the prototypes for Amy and Rory I think - she, feisty and determined, he, seemingly a bit of a drip at first but coming much more into his own as things went on. I felt for Mickey at first though in much the same way that I was later to feel for Rory. How can a human male compete with a 900 or more year old Time Lord who moves through space and time in a groovy blue box? Both men at one point or another were left feeling that they were inadequate. Both, in their separate ways, later went on to carve their own roles and be useful in their own right.
